The May Developer Meetup is a two-parter looking at the interaction between designers and developers presented by Kate Moore and Christine Rondeau. Developers, designers, and everyone in between are welcome.
WHY CAN’T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG? A GUIDE TO WORKING WITH DESIGNERS
Presented by Kate Moore
The designer/developer relationship can be rife with frustration. If you’re a developer, working with designers can be challenging. They just don’t seem to get what we do! On the flip side, as a designer working with developers, can be equally frustrating. Why can’t they just change the kerning on that one title?
Kate will talk about tips for working with designers, and talk about what to do to help designers work with developers. This talk will be mostly from the developer standpoint, but will explain some of the reasons that designers make seemingly crazy requests.
Kate will talk about:
• A good process for working together
• Explaining how WordPress lays stuff out to designers
• Font and colour tips
• Grids
• General tips to cultivate some understanding and patience for each other
SURPRISE, HERE’S THE FINAL DESIGN AND YES, IT MAKES NO SENSE. JUST MAKE IT WORK
Presented by Christine Rondeau
Being a freelance developer can be a lot like Christmas. You never know what design files you’ll get or crazy requests will come your way. But just like Christmas, if you keep an open mind and are open to suggestions, designers can give you wonderful gifts.
In this case study, Christine will recount a story, where things started horrendously wrong, people cried, one guy got fired, but in the end, the project was a great success, many lessons were learned and everyone lived happily ever after.
