This policy describes how WPYVR collects and uses information on this website. It follows the Vancouver WordPress Meetup Group policy on wpyvr.ca, with extra notes for this community directory.
Who we are
WPYVR is the Vancouver WordPress community. This website is a home base for member profiles, events, and links to Meetup, Slack, and Discord.
Comments
If you leave a comment, we collect the data shown in the comments form, plus your IP address and browser user agent string to help with spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (a hash) may be sent to Gravatar to see if you are using it. The Gravatar privacy policy is at https://automattic.com/privacy/. After a comment is approved, your profile picture is visible to the public with that comment.
Media
If you upload images, avoid files with embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors can download images and extract that location data.
Member profiles and the map
If you create an account, we store the information you provide in your WordPress user profile. That can include your name, email address, password hash, photo, bio, role, specialties, links, and a favorite place.
A profile appears in People and on the community map only when you choose to make it public and your email is verified. You can change visibility and edit or remove profile details from Account.
Favorite places are meant as public community spots in Metro Vancouver, not home addresses. Map pins use the coordinates you save.
Cookies
If you leave a comment, you may opt in to saving your name, email, and website in cookies so you do not have to type them again. Those cookies last one year.
If you visit the sign-in page, we set a temporary cookie to see whether your browser accepts cookies. It contains no personal data and is discarded when you close the browser.
When you sign in, we set cookies to save your login and screen options. Login cookies last two days, and screen options last a year. If you select “Remember Me”, login lasts two weeks. Signing out removes the login cookies.
If you edit or publish a post, a cookie may store the post ID you just edited. It contains no personal data and expires after one day.
Embedded content from other websites
Pages may include embedded content (for example videos, images, or maps). Embedded content from other websites behaves as if you visited that other website. Those sites may collect data about you, use cookies, add third-party tracking, and monitor interaction with that content, including if you are logged in there.
Event listings may be fetched from Meetup. Visiting Meetup, Slack, or Discord is covered by those services’ own policies.
Who we share your data with
We do not sell member data. Website administrators can see and edit profile information. If you request a password reset, your IP address is included in the reset email.
How long we retain your data
Comments and their metadata are kept indefinitely so we can recognize and approve follow-up comments automatically.
For registered members, we keep the personal information in your user profile until you delete it or ask us to remove your account. You can see, edit, or delete your profile information at any time, except you cannot change your username.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request an export of the personal data we hold about you, including data you have provided. You can also request that we erase personal data we hold about you, except data we must keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Where your data is sent
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
