This presentation will be one and a half hour lab style presentation and is targeted at developers. Attendees should have an understanding of Javascript and PHP. Coding skills are essential. You are encouraged to bring your laptop to follow along.

The web’s trending towards single-page, no-refresh, javascript-powered web applications. While historically WordPress has been used as a blog or website CMS system, it’s entirely possible to use WordPress as the backend for any web application or as part of a larger system. This workshop will explore how that can be achieved.

WordPress.com and Jetpack-enabled WordPress.org sites offer the ability to interact with them via a json REST API. This workshop will first explain what the possible integrations with WordPress are, what the REST API is and then would demonstrate how to get started with it and create a simple Javascript application that interacts with the API.
